The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir

Within the setting of breathtaking beauty, history and romance, the hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir and its 12 acres overlook St. Mary’s Church and the ruins of the 12 century “Cistercian Abbey of the Long Valley” containing the monks’s pond and the grave of Llewellyn the Last.

Paul and Victoria Humpherston bought the Hall in Abbey-Cwm-Hir in late 1997 and spent 9 years restoring it to a building of Gothic splendour; boasting stunning interiors and fascinating collections. They have also restored 12 acres of Victorian gardens in a beautiful setting above the ruins of the 12th C “Abbey of the Long Valley. The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir has appeared on many television documentaries on historic houses, and on lifestyles.. Their achievements have been featured on BBC “Discovering Welsh Houses” ,”My Secret Wales”,”Wales Today”, on ITV “Wales Tonight” ,”Great Welsh Roads”and “How the other Half Lives” and on S4C.

Tours of the Hall are carried out by the owners or their friends from the village in a family atmosphere. Paul and Victoria have no private apartments, and visitors meet the family and see all 52 rooms. They can also enjoy 12 acres of beautiful gardens before or /and after the tour.

The gardens and grounds have also been restored for visitors to enjoy. Features include:

Sweeping lawns and terraces
4 courtyards
Some splendid mixed woodland
A lake and waterfall.

The gardens are particularly lovely through the months of May-September with their shows of rhododendra and roses. All rooms are decorated through the months of November-December for the festive season. This spectacular Mid Wales attraction is located 9 miles north of The Metropole Hotel.
