  • Chefs grown straight from our garden

    29 Jun 2010, 4:41 pm

After a second glance we realised it was Chefs' Rafal Majchrzak (pictured left) and Arindam Mondal (pictured right) harvesting the first crop of courgettes last friday from our garden which went on the Saturday menu. Arindam has been working with us for 5 weeks and Raf has been with us for 5 years. Both chefs are passionate about local produce and use their expertise to produce creative dishes. General Manager and experienced gardener, Robert Hughes, has been overseeing the whole garden project since it started three months ago which has enjoyed excellent weather in its debut year

  • Our fine four fendered friends

    17 Jun 2010, 12:01 pm

It is always nice to be kept in touch by our motoring friends. One of our motoring events at The Metropole late last year was Fraser Nash Car Club and very active socially and on the competitive scene. Many thanks to David Leigh providing us the caption for this photo “James Trigwell presents the Stanley Cup to the winning 319 BMW team fuehrer Mark Garfitt before whipping it back again and into the Frazer Nash archives!!” Not everyone has four fenders; other recent motoring events have been the Thames Vale Advanced Motorcyclists, Hadrian Tours (Harley Davidson), SW Region Institute Advanced Motorcyclists, Riders Edge (Harley Davidson), Bournemouth and Wessex Advanced Motorcyclists and The Taffmog Wicked Welsh Weekend.
  • Waiting for your bed to be made, literally...

    14 Jun 2010, 2:42 pm

As well as sourcing local food produce, we champion local businesses that can provide quality products. The Four Poster Bed company at Kington is currently crafting two four poster beds in their workshop. The bespoke Contemporary Tapered Four Poster Bed and the Twisted Pencil Post Bed will each sit beautifully in two of our luxury suites. Once the canopy, caps and posts have been carpentered, they will be added to the frames and delivered in the next week. This coincides with current redevelopment of bedrooms with new bathrooms being introduced, new furnishings and even the occasional wall being knocked down to extend bedroom space.

  • How many people does it take to build a greenhouse?

    27 Apr 2010, 4:16 pm

Joking aside, greenhouse construction is not our forte, hospitality is. That is why we discuss monthly any future changing issues. Environmental policies are one of the key factors. We started this year with the installation of a new state-of-the-art bedroom heating system to give better efficiency and control to our customers. One of our latest projects is our garden. A variety of herbs, fruits and vegetables will be grown to feature on head chef's future menus. We will keep you up to date with how the garden has progressed in the future.

  • Spa Break during May 2010

    24 May 2010, 3:05 pm

I would just like to say how much we enjoyed our stay at the Metropole – and even though the hotel was very busy with Bikers and Hikers we still enjoyed excellent service from all staff we came across.  This included the receptionists, waitresses and spa staff.  We requested to keep our room until 1.00 on the Sunday as we were in the Spa until then – and this request was met with no problem.

The food in the restaurant was excellent and we look forward to retuning.

I work as a Customer Service Manager myself – and always appreciate someone saying ‘thank you’ in a world dominated by people complaining.

I would you to pass on my thanks to all the staff concerned.

    Regards L Evans

say a big thank you for all your efforts.

We will be booking again next year at the same time.
Feel free to use our endorsement of your hotel as we cannot recommend it highly enough.

    Best wishes
    Chris & Caroline Heginbotham

  • Jazz Weekend November 2009

    30 Nov 2009, 4:20 pm

My husband and I have just returned home from the Jazz Weekend at The Metropole. From the warm welcome by Nelly at reception, through the wonderful food served with charm and efficiency in the restaurant (so well-run by Maggie Littlewood) up to our comfortable room kept clean by Monika – the whole weekend was perfect. (Apart from Wales losing to Australia in the rugby – but we won’t go into that!) We will have no hesitation in coming back nor in recommending The Metropole to our friends. This sort of friendly atmosphere coupled with a quiet efficiency and attention to detail comes from the top, so many thanks and congratulations to everyone from Mr Hughes to the newest member of staff.  A five-star experience!  Peter and Lesley Hines.

  • Golf party weekend in October 2009

    8 Oct 2009, 12:53 pm

    Dear Sir,

I assisted in organising the party of twelve golfers who stayed at your hotel over last weekend. Remarkably, I am able to report that none of them to date has uttered a single word of complaint about your establishment.

You may feel the above falls some way short of a glowing testimonial. However, after some twenty years of touring with this group, you have my assurance that this is a totally unprecedented state of affairs. I must congratulate you and your team for providing a splendid base for our short holiday, and will have no hesitation in recommending your hotel to anyone visiting the area.
Please convey the gratitude of us all to your staff.

    Kind regards,
    Chris Herman

The staff assigned to the Miles Conservatory and The Wedgewood room attended to us faultlessly.

  • Wooden Spoon – Legends Dinner

    13 Jul 2009, 4:48 pm

    Dear Metropole Hotel,

May I, on behalf of the Wooden Spoon, express my sincere thanks to you personally, and to the General Manager and the staff of the hotel for the excellent manner in which they carried out their duties to make each evening a success.

Our seating plan and your acceptance to meet our needs to accommodate the large number of people attending the event worked out so well, and it meant that everyone was happy on the night. The food provided by the hotel was of the highest standard and was remarked on by numerous people during the evening.

The evening was such a success, and it seems taht everyone is looking forward to the next “Legends Dinner”.

    Thank you once again

Ted Cochrane, Chairman, Mid-Wales Region Wooden Spoon.
